Showing in Philippine cinemas this May 2010

The month of May marks the start of the Summer Movie Season in Hollywood. The Summer Movie Season, which runs until July, is one of the peak seasons for more popular must-watch big production movies (the other one being the Holiday Movie Season). So buckle up because you are in for an exciting three-month movie ride.

The Summer Movies have already kicked off with Iron Man 2 which was shown in Philippine cinemas before April ended. This May 2010, four gigantic movies are coming your way at your favorite movie houses. Here is my watch list:

Must-See Movies of May 2010

Here Comes the Bride (May 12, 2010)

This summer comedy movie from Star Cinema is definite on my watch list. The plot is complicatedly simple. The five characters in the movie switched bodies after a car accident. And the beautician's soul ended up in the brides body.

What's hard to miss in Here Comes the Bride is Eugene Domingo acting like Angelica Panganiban and Angelica acting like John Lapuz. It's like Kimmy Dora and NNNN's Crissy together in a movie.

Here Comes the Bride also stars Tuesday Vargas, Jaime Fabregas, Tom Rodriguez and Cherry Pie Picache.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (May 12, 2010)

This re-imagining of one of America's highest grossing horror series from its new director Samuel Bayer will bring moviegoers back to the story on where Freddy Krueger came from before he haunted teenagers' in their dreams.

After eight films in the series, A Nightmare on Elm Street is back at square one, now with a new perspective. And a new actor.

Freddy Krueger is now played by Jackie Earle Haley and Nancy Holbrook is played by Rooney Mara.

Robin Hood (May 14, 2010)

The story behind the legend. The hero behind the outlaw.

This is the tagline of Robin Hood 2010. Clearly, the movie will turn back and time and give us a glimpse of the life of Robin Longstride played by Russell Crowe before he became the popular Robin Hood. From an expert archer without a care in the world to a vigilante who robs the upper class for the sake of the poor.

Cate Blanchett plays Lady Marion, Robin's love interest.

Shrek Forever After 3D (May 21, 2010)

Just when you thought they all lived happily ever after, Shrek is in another trouble, care of the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin.

In Shrek Forever After, Shrek signed a deal with Rumpelstiltskin that he will be a normal ogre again. But Shrek was tricked and found himself in an alternate Far Far Away universe where Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king, Donkey is an intellectual, Lord Farquaad is still alive, and Shrek and Fiona have never met.

Join Shrek and the gang for the last chapter of this lovable fairly tale in 3D. Yep, in 3D!

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 27, 2010)

In this movie adaptation of a popular video game, Jake Gyllenhaal plays the role of Prince Dastan who teams up with Princess Tamina played by Gemma Arterton to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. To do this, they must use the Dagger of Time, which gives them a limited control over the flow of time.

Unlike the video game, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time gives a detailed backstory of Prince Dastan and the other characters.
