Harry Potter is the new top-grossing franchise in history
First, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 break records as the highest-grossing opening day on July 15, 2011 with a whopping $92.1 million, toppling former record-holder The Twilight Saga: New Moon which listed $72.7 million.
Then, the final installment of the Harry Potter series again makes history by topping the box office charts as the highest grossing opening weekend. Deathly Hallows Part 2 drew some $169.2 million from die-hard fans who even went on cinemas in wizard costumes. It dethroned The Dark Knight (2008) which marked a $158.4 million in its first weekend.
In the worldwide scene, Deathly Hallows 2 breaks more weekend opening records amassing $481.5 million, 20% above the former record-holder, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) which made $394.

The first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, made the most money in the series with $317.6 million.
