"Water for Elephants" Movie Review

Last Thursday, I was fortunate enough to be invited once again to the special screening of the movie that will be showing in a few day's time. The movie "Water for Elephants" starring Christoph Waltz, Robert Pattinson, and Reese Witherspoon is a romantic-drama film about a man's journey in finding love, in the most spectacular show on Earth.

Robert Pattinson's comeback on the big screen is something new and refreshing. Away from his shining-shimmering vampire look, Robert Pattinson plays Jacob Jankowski, a twenty-something veterinarian student who is soon to be graduating in the exclusive Cornell University until he found out the sudden death of his parents in a car accident. When he decided to left his home because of huge amount of debt his parents had left him, he found himself on a moving traveling circus train where he will start his life once again.

Robert Pattinson's portrayal as Jacob may have lacks the skills of being a true veterinarian, but as always, Pattinson with his charming boyish look, is really an effective tool in making this movie achieve its success. Even though I have not seen any vampire trace in this movie, Robert Pattinson as Jacob somehow made also a mark to Robert Pattinson's career other than known as Edward Cullen or Cedric Diggory.

Reese Witherspoon's mature role for this movie maybe lacks a little glitter. I am actually looking a Renee Zellwegger look in the movie, Chicago in Reese Witherspoon's make up and costume, since the era of the film dates back the Depression Era of the United States of America, but it did not feel right for me to have that make up and costume for Reese Witherspoon. Except for her costume during parade and performances in the circus, yeah... that's something a Depression Era circus performer should look like!

A movie's effectiveness is said to be seen on the chemistry of the two main characters. Some critics may have not found it, but for me, Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon partnership on-screen are favorable and feasible at the same time.

I really loved the effort of doing the research for this film. Thanks to the original author of the novel of the same title, Sara Gruen, everything in this period film really makes the impression of taking the moviegoers go back in time.

I am hoping no animals were hurt in filming this movie, especially the horse who has been mercy killed and the big elephant, Rosie who has been poked with bull's hook several times by the mean circus leader August played by Christoph Waltz. The actions were kinda botherint to me because I have learned to love Rosie while watching the film. She was just charming seeing on screen.

Like they say, life is a circus, full of troubles and intrigues, but in the end you'll realize, life is such a spectacular and magnificent thing to have. Overall, "Water for Elephants" is a must-watch movie not only to those people who are fans of Robert Pattinson or Reese Witherspoon, but to those people who seek love in unexpected places as well.
