Oscars 2011 Prediction: The King’s Speech will trounce The Social Network

Although The Social Network is in a winning streak in most of the award giving bodies, experts say The King’s Speech will be Oscars 2011 Best Picture Winner.

The Oscars 2011 Best Picture prediction came after the conclusion of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards last January 30, 2011.

The King’s Speech bagged the Oustanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture (the guild's equivalent of Best Picture) in the recently concluded Screen Actors Guild’s Awards.

According to experts, unlike most of the award giving bodies, SAG Awards is one of the three major movie awards before the Academy Awards which most often than not pick a Best Picture similar to what will be chosen in the Oscars.

The other two major award giving bodies, Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild Awards, have also selected The King’s Speech as their best film of the year.

For the experts, citations from these three major awarding bodies are an indication that The King’s Speech will be the runaway winner in the Academy Awards. They say this has already happened a lot of times in the past.

Also, they argued that 6,000-plus voting member of the Academy must be composed of professionals like in these three major guilds. This is unlike the voting members of minor award giving bodies which are composed mainly of critics and reviewers.

This is also evident when the Oscars 2011 nominations were announced where The King’s Speech received 12 nods while The Social Network received only eight.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards happens February 27, 2011.
