Showing in Philippine Cinemas this February 2010

February is the time when a lot of people, especially couples, would like to go to the cinemas. The movie theater is the second most intimate and romantic spot to be (next to a hotel, of course! :)

That's why this month the cinemas are jam-packed with good movies to enjoy. Whether you like an lovable fantasy movie, a romantic valentine flick, or a tragic tear-jerking drama, you are in for a treat.

So here are eight movies which are showing in Philippine cinemas this February.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

If you haven't had enough of vampire movies to watch, take this. The Vampire Assistant is based on the popular series of books by Darren Shan called The Saga of Darren Shan. It is a fantasy-adventure about a teenager who unknowingly breaks a 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires, a peaceful group called the Vampire Clan who don't kill their victims, and a group of stereotypical bloodsucking killers called the Vampaneze. The Blind Side

This is the movie where Sandra Bullock won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Drama, so expect her to dry your tear glands every step of the way. Anyway, The Blind Side is about Michael Oher, a homeless African-American youngster from a broken home, adopted  by the Touhys, a well-to-do white family who help him fulfill his potential.

Other movies you can watch now are Case 39, Did You Hear About the Morgans?  and The Princess and the Frog.

Case 39 is about an idealistic social worker (Renee Zellweger) who saves an abused 10-year-old girl from her parents only to discover that the girl is not as innocent as she thinks. If you would like to take your girlfriend into a frightful movie to have her hugging till the credits, this one's for you.

Did You Hear About the Morgans? is about Paul and Meryl Morgan (Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker), a recently separated New York power couple on the verge of divorce until they witness the murder of Meryl's client.

You already know The Princess and the Frog, the latest animated film from Walt Disney which features a black princess, a first for Walt Disney. And it is also the first 2D animated film since 2004. Read more about The Princess and the Frog here.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

From the looks of it, this movie will try to take the place of the Harry Potter movie series even before they're off the big screen.

This film is an adaptation of the first book in the series called Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This fantasy-adventure is directed by Chris Columbus, the director of the first two movies in the Harry Potter series. And from the trailer, this film is also packed with amazing special effects.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Plot Summary/Synopsis

A teenager named Percy Jackson discovers that he's the demigod son of the Greek god, Poseidon. He embarks on a journey across modern-day America with his friends Annabeth Chase, the demigod daughter of Athena, and Grover Underwood, a satyr, to save his mother, return Zeus' stolen lightning bolt, and prevent a war between the gods.

Tooth Fairy

How about a comedy fantasy film to lighten up your Valentine mood, perfect for couples who cherish great laughs. If you enjoyed Game Plan, you will surely enjoy this one.

Imagine Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson with wings, a fairy suit and a wand. Sounds like fun!

Dwayne Johnson plays the role of Derek, popularly known as the "Tooth Fairy" for knocking out his opponents teeth. In short, he's not a fair player. But bad deeds don't go without punishment. He was sentenced to be a real Tooth Fairy for one week. Here's the trailer for the Tooth Fairy:

Valentine's Day

And here's the ultimate Valentine movie of the year. What else, the title speaks for itself. Generally, it's a film about a Valentine's Day. How people celebrate it and how they feel about it. But specifically, it's more complicated than that. To show you how complicated it is, here's the plot summary of Valentine's Day from Wikipedia:

An on-leave army officer named Kate (Julia Roberts) is a passenger on a flight from Iraq to Los Angeles when she meets Holden (Bradley Cooper), a gay man whose lover is a closeted football player (Eric Dane).

The owner of a florist shop, Reed (Ashton Kutcher) proposes to his girlfriend, Morley (Jessica Alba), while learning his best friend, Julia (Jennifer Garner), has a boyfriend named Harrison (Patrick Dempsey) who turns out to be married.

An assistant named Liz (Anne Hathaway) is working at the biggest talent agency in town and is dating the mailroom assistant, Jason (Topher Grace). Julia's mother, Estelle (Shirley MacLaine) is a happy retiree who must reveal an affair from long ago to her husband, Edgar (Hector Elizondo).

Their granddaughter (Emma Roberts) is going to have sex with her boyfriend at her high school, where Tyler Harrington (Taylor Lautner) and Samantha Kenny (Taylor Swift) are athletic teenagers who are deeply in love.

Meanwhile, a publicist named Kara (Jessica Biel) is seemingly alone with no date on Valentine's Day working for her boss, Kelvin Briggs (Jamie Foxx), with whom she falls in love.
