Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds

For a work of fiction, Inglourious Basterds is a nice touch on how Hitler had died. Too bad he doesn’t look so scary here. You’ll see him worried, scared and butchered.

The story focuses on the “heroic” act of the Inglourious Basterds, a group of French soldiers who likes hunting Nazi’s, shaving their scalps or marking their foreheads and shattering their brains with a bat. Quentine Tarantino has a knack for making fun of not so funny things. He got it with the scalp-shaving thing.

I say this film is entertaining and has a perfectly meshed plot. I’ve read it took Tarantino some five years or more to write the script.

This movie is for those who like plot-driven action. It also has a lot of twists which adds more suspense. We already know that Hilter would die in the end, but we are more eager to know how it will happen. If you’ve not seen this yet, you’ll be amused on how, but I’ve given a hint in the first paragraph.

I’ve also read this movie had issues with the German government. After I’ve seen this movie, that was the first question in my mind, how would the Germans take this?

All in all, I’ll say this is a work of art. I think we should not look at it as a historical piece. Does anyone here today know exactly how Hitler died? Inglourious Basterds is a creative endeavor of how the things would have happened.

Another fallback this movie has is that it's hard to have a personal connection with this movie unless you are a Tarantino fanatic.

Inglourious Basterds won a number of awards including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture in the Screen Actors Guilds Awards. Christopher Waltz who played the role of SS Colonel Hans Landa, has received various recognition including Best Actor in a Supporting Role in the Golden Globe Awards.
