"American Pastoral" Movie Review: Political-Themed Movie with Apolitical Feels

"American Pastoral" is a movie about the neverending love of a father to his own daughter and how political issues set them apart together with their family. Dakota Fanning has never been so rebellious in a film before until this one. She plays the daughter of Ewan McGregor's character, Seymour, equipped with several political issues lying all over her despite the loving and almost perfect family that she ever had.

The movie is based on the award-winning, best-selling, and Pulitzer prize winning novel of the same title by author Phillip Roth. The all-American culture was seen all over the movie --- from the political turmoils during the 1950s that expands all throughout the decades, the dresses, the racist commentaries, equal rights, and all those pop culture you can merely think of.

People with liberated political views and with strong American political background can relate to this movie as well as people with strong foundation of American pop culture and history. The movie is set on a timeline where everything shown has happened during the event in the past.

The movie "American Pastoral" is quite stressful to watch due to the different things that happened in an innocent girl with no sense of finding happiness, no appreciation with life, and with unnecessary fads about the political turmoils that happen in the surroundings even though they did not affect Dakota Fanning's character, Merry in a direct way possible and despite the perfect family she ever had.

Overall, we can't believe that an ordinary teenage girl suffers from different problems of the society even though she does not have to. "American Pastoral" is one of those films with deep sense of movie responsibility to society yet the society does not want to be involved. It's a whole new bunch of rollercoaster ride of twists and turns that at one point you will just realize you are on a crossroad where you never know what the movie is up to or what the movie really wants to project or offer this time.

We give "American Pastoral" a 7 out of 10 movie experience for being so deep and politically inclined yet we are not sure what's really in store for us. Also, this is Ewan McGregor's directorial debut so we give high praise and commendation for this masterpiece. Below is the official movie trailer for "American Pastoral" and now showing in select Ayala Cinema Malls. Be sure to check out www.sureseats.com for more details.
