"Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" Movie Review: The Awakened Force Is Weak But Entertaining, Satisfying, and Enjoyable
The "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" is entertaining to watch -- it is a movie crafted and made by a fan (through the persona of director and writer, J.J. Abrams) for the Star Wars fans. The "Star Wars" saga fans are all hungry for the next chapter after the Episode VI's story has ended, and here's J. J. Abrams to the rescue.
J. J. Abrams directorial debut in a Star Wars film came as a surprise. Interestingly, the movie has the right amount of perfect timing and excellent storytelling every Star Wars fan should really not missed. Every scene, action detail, drama, mystery, character, adventure, thrill, and excitement were felt, followed, and recognized tremendously by all the moviegoers who were watching or have watched the film.
In spite the good start, however, the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" story was somehow weak, A true "Star Wars" fan would know how Director George Lucas would do if he will make the seventh installment. He will put a more evil villain but will balance it with some weird but lovable creatures. We all know that the conflict in the "Star Wars" universe is all political --- this is what George Lucas is known for. Aside from these, George Lucas is also known for long hardcore light saber fighting scenes accompanied with orchestrated musical score background and vocals. This is the Star Wars trademark ever since.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" also have some of these known "Star Wars" trademarks, but I think, J. J. Abrams, focused more on the twist of the story and how it will be delivered carefully that the fans or audiences won't suspect that Rey is the abandoned Jedi, that Kylo Ren is the love child of Han Solo and Princess Leia, and that Luke Skywalker will not appear in the whole three hours of the film until the you've reached the near-end of the movie.
But of course, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was not all about these twists. As I mentioned before, the storytelling is great, but it does not mean the whole story is also great. I really can't say there are some flaws, as I am not really that hardcore of a Star Wars fan, but I know the movie franchises by heart, and I think that is all I need to prove myself that there is something wrong in the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", I just can't figure it our yet.
Anyway, the new "Star Wars" movie installment is very entertaining as well. It has the perfect ingredient for a beginning of a new saga to be followed in this new "Star Wars" trilogy universe. Maybe we will be waiting for Star Wars Episode VIII for all the answers that we needed.
The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be coming back tomorrow, January 8, 2016 in Philippine movie theaters to extend the force for those who have not yet watched the film due to the MMFF 2015 movie offerings. May the force be with you!
