Movie review: Creed

Michael B. Jordan (Adonis Johnson) and Sylvester Stallone (Rocky Balboa) exuded effective on-screen father and son like vibe in "Creed." The film focuses on the fights not just in the boxing arena but also the battles that individuals faces in their lives. The film had a very convincing realistic vibe of cinematography. As you watch the film, you'll surely find yourself cheering at the climactic fight of Adonis Creed against 'Pretty' Ricky Conlan.

There is great potential that the Creed series would equal if not, surpass the success of the Rocky series. The exciting boxing plot with just the right amount of romantic flair made this film perfect. The main characters were well developed. There were no unnecessary sub plots in between. One of the best action-sports film to look forward to in the big screen.

It takes strength and determination to be a world-class fighter. But for Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), even with boxing in his blood, it will take something more: Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). To step out from the shadow of Apollo Creed, the father he never knew, Adonis must get Rocky back in the ring.

"Creed" Takes the "Rocky" Legacy to a New Direction

Considered to be one of Hollywood’s brightest young actors, Michael B. Jordan (“Chronicle,” “The Fantastic Four”) plays the titular character in Warner Bros. Pictures new boxing thriller “Creed,” which explores a new chapter in the “Rocky” story.

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone).

As "Creed," Michael B. Jordan Must Live Up to Father's Name

Having created Rocky Balboa and played him in six prior incarnations, Stallone slipped easily back into the role, eager to explore the character in this phase of his life, when he’s presented with this unexpected opportunity.  “Even though the character comes out of me, I wish I was able to be more like him,” Stallone laughs.  “He’s the epitome of patience, there’s not a mean bone in his body and, though he’s very competitive, he fights for pride.”

Despite taking place in the male-dominated world of boxing, Warner Bros. Pictures' “Creed” isn’t strictly about the guys. Just as Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) found love with wife Adrian, titular character Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) is finding something like it with his neighbor, Bianca.

Fast-rising actress Tessa Thompson (“Selma”) plays Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis.
