"Crimson Peak" Movie Review: A Gothic Horror-Thriller Masterpiece

The latest movie offering from visionary director, Guillermo del Toro, "Crimson Peak" is a Gothic-themed horror-thriller movie that can simply get the scare out of you. For me, "Crimson Peak" has surpassed its predecessors such as "The Woman in Black", "Sleepy Hollow", "The Others", and "Interview with the Vampire" to name a few, when it comes to period and Gothic-horror-thriller category of movies. All of my praises can go to the writing, directing, and producing prowess of Mr. Guillermo del Toro himself and his set of good actors and actress and production staff in the film.

The movie's superb storytelling will take us to the eerily-believable world of Edith (played by Mia Wasikowska) and the life that surrounds her that is full of mystery, love, and deception. The movie started with some kind of 'urban legend' to set the moviegoers' mind and mood that what they will watch is a horror-thriller movie and not some kind of cheap freak show.

If you have watched the first "The Woman in Black" movie starring Daniel Radcliffe, a similar 'urban legend' thing was also introduced in the film with the use of its movie trailer. They introduced the story of the "Black Lady" who lurks in the old house at the middle of a marshland, that this 'woman' "never forgives and never forgets." However, in "Crimson Peak" movie, the 'urban legend' thing was introduced with the use of a child's imagination of ghastly creature, which refers to her mother's ghost. By then, the producers already knew that mood has already been set.

"Crimson Peak" is a quality moving Gothic-horror work of art when it comes to productions. I love how the movie's setting were done, which is visually-appetizing to watch. The old mansion's look, not to mention the old New York City setting also helped with the setting of the mood. Not only that, the costumes, the materials used, the cars, the venues, everything that is old is somewhat scary at all! A wonderfully-done Gothic masterpiece, indeed! Highly commended for its effective visuals and scary, perfect-timing sound effects as well!

The movie stars Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska."Crimson Peak" is directed by Guillermo del Toro from Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures released through United International Pictures in the Philippines.

"Crimson Peak" is now showing in movie theaters and we give this movie an 8 out of 10 stars! Below is the movie trailer for "Crimson Peak".
