Movie Review: Fifty Shades of Grey (Blur)
One of the widely anticipated film of the year, Fifty Shades of Grey is a 2015 American erotic romantic drama film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson with a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. Based on British author E. L. James' bestselling novel of the same name, the film stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, a college graduate who begins a sadomasochistic relationship with young business magnate Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).
The film premiered at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival and Philippine Cinemas on February 11, 2015 and had a wide theatrical release on February 13, 2015 by Universal Pictures. It received negative reviews. A sequel is planned for a 2016 release.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" film has been receiving mixed reviews from critics and the avid fans of the books. In the Philippine released version of the film, there have been recognizable dark blocks and blurred parts on several scenes (that are often annoying). Full frontal scenes and excessive pumping scenes were toned down with these black gradients. (Game of Thrones fans would probably call the censorship lame)
The plot is simple, an inexperienced young lady met a very rich bachelor that could provide her surprises/gifts beyond her expectations. The only catch on the almost perfect portrayal of the prince charming in this story is that he is fascinated with BDSM. The film has been a visualization of the sometimes vague but descriptive verses in E. L. James' bestselling novel of the same title. The film started very grand with everything on its placed ready to be probed deeper but ended with a cliffhanger. The two main characters were portrayed as if all they wanted was nothing more than brute sexual acts. The film could have been better if Anastasia and Christian's character were developed as the plot progressed.
Fifty Shades of Grey has given audiences a film with tons of blurred scenes with a blurry plot- let us just hope that the sequel would learn from the critical feedback received by the first film.

The film adaptation of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" book was produced by Focus Features, Michael De Luca Productions, and Trigger Street Productions, with Universal Pictures and Focus Features securing the rights to the trilogy in March 2012. Universal is also the film's distributor. Charlie Hunnam was originally cast in the role of Christian Grey alongside Dakota Johnson in the role of Anastasia Steele, but Hunnam gave up the part in October 2013,with Jamie Dornan announced for the role on 23 October.
