Ateneo Mounts 9th Spring Film Festival

Six award-winning films will be featured in the annual Spring Film Festival organized by the Ateneo de Manila University’s Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies at the Shangri-La Plaza from February 13 to 22, 2015.



Now on its ninth year, the festival showcases the animated film “Legend of Kung Fu Rabbit” (Outstanding Animation at Huabiao Award), the police drama “Beijing Blues” (Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing at the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards),  the martial arts drama “The Grandmaster” (Best Film and Best Actress at the 20th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award; Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effect, Best Art Direction, Best Makeup and Costume Design, Audience Choice Award, and Best Actress at the 50th Golden Horse Awards; Best Non-English Language Feature by the Denver Film Critics Society; Best Sound Editing: Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue & ADR in a Foreign Feature Film at the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards; Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Costume & Make-Up Design, Best Action Choreography, Best Original Film Score, Best Sound Design at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards), the romance film “Love Deposit” starring Xia Yu, the family drama “Sunlight on Fingertips,” and the comedy-drama film “Caught in the Web.”

9th Spring Film Festival Schedule and Featured Films

The film festival is organized by the Ateneo de Manila University’s Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies together with the Cultural Division of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines, with the cooperation of Ateneo Celadon and Shangri-La Plaza. It aims to promote Chinese language and culture in mainstream Philippine society, particularly among young Filipinos, so that they may become bridges between the Philippines and China.

Another highlight of the festival is a painting exhibit from February 12 to 20 and a cultural workshop on February 19, 2015, 2:00 to 5:00PM.
