Movie Review: Wish I Was Here

An inspirational film about family and struggles of real life, "Wish I Was Here" will surely touch your heart. What I like about this film is that it only have a relevant number of main characters with a set of effective supporting characters. The witty and energetic Tucker (Pierce Gagnon) is my favorite character in this film. I admire how the film presented conflicts that didn't lead to a scene where people are shouting and banging things. I commend how the director managed to slowly lead the audiences into the lives of the Blooms. There were several serious scenes latticed with surreal images that makes you wonder while watching the film. Sarah's character (Kate Hudson) presented an unconventional wife facet that would be a bit rare to find in our society today. The constant injection of bubbly to naughty scenes helped adding a kick to the story. The development of Aidan's character (Zach Braff) in the film went in an unconventional twist but ended up in the right direction. The simplicity of this film is what made it so good.

The film tells the story of Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor, father and husband, who at 35 is still trying to find himself. Aidan winds up trying to home school his two children when his father can no longer afford to pay for private education and the only available public school is on its last legs. Through teaching them about life his way, Aidan gradually discovers some of the parts of himself he couldn’t find.

Zach Braff’s second directorial effort "Wish I Was Here" stars Braff, along with Donald Faison, Josh Gad, Pierce Gagnon, Ashley Greene, Kate Hudson, Joey King, Jim Parsons and Mandy Patinkin.
