Filipino Director Lav Diaz Wins Top Prize at Locarno Film Festival


Acclaimed Filipino director, Lav Diaz took home the Golden Leopard Award for Best Film with his entry entitled, "Mula Sa Kung Ano Ang Noon" (From What Is Before) to the Locarno Film Festival 2014 which concluded last Saturday at Piazza Grande in Switzerland. The five-and-a-half-hour film of Diaz is a "breathtaking black-and-white film about his childhood in the two years leading up to martial law in our country", Hollywood Reporter reports.

The movie "Mula Sa Kung Ano Ang Noon" was described by one of the juries as Lav Diaz' "most accessible and most political movie" so far. Lav Diaz and his producer will share the $100,000 grand prize.
