"Life of Pi" Movie Review
Last Sunday, I was fortunate enough to be invited by the people behind the successful press screening of "Life of Pi" at Megamall, Cinema 1 given by 20th Century Fox. I was with a friend whom actually waited for this moment to arrive. My friend and I were very excited for the showing of "Life of Pi" in movie theaters. We are eagerly waiting for this movie as early as December last year. But due to the Metro Manila Film Festival 2012, the showing of "Life of Pi" movie in the Philippines is moved to a January 9, 2013 playdate.
The Review
The movie "Life of Pi" is nothing really ordinary in terms of plot. I'm sure there is at least one story out there that also tells us how a person who sailed at sea, met a shipwreck, learned to survive at sea, and survived the tragedy and lived to tell his or her stories or adventures to others. But what makes "Life of Pi" different from all of the others "survived-a-tragedy-at-sea-and-lived-to-tell-the-story" thing is how the movie was presented in a manner that we bring back, if not, level up, our faith in God. The author, Yann Martel, screenwriter, David Magee, and director, Ang Lee have captured all the necessary things that this movie has to offer. The movie "Life of Pi" teaches us so many things especially when you actually reached the director's minimalist moment, where Pi was stranded at the middle of Pacific Ocean. Who can imagine how a raft, a boat, a large ocean, a boy, and a tiger named Richard Parker scenes could be so intense, focused, and thrilling yet so entertaining, endearing, and touching at the same time.
Ang Lee's screen adaptation to Yann Martel's best-selling and award-winning novel, "Life of Pi" takes us to an enchanting tale of courage, faith, and hope when there seems to be none. Pi Patel, played by first-time actor, Suraj Sharma, shows us that believing in God and having faith in Him are the best weapon to keep in order to survive a tragedy or something like "as big as the ocean" problem. I am so delighted to see a movie that brings enlightenment and uplifts the spirit and shows us hope while teaching us the courage to survive.
Overall, "Life of Pi" is a movie that the whole family must see. Very inspirational, uplifting, and teaches us good moral values to live by. "Life of Pi" is showing in movie theaters on January 9, 2013. The movie trailer of "Life of Pi" is shown here.
