That quote from the movie trailer sums up the plot of Walt Disney's video game adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The action-adventure fantasy film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Movie Plot Summary/Synopsis

Produced by Walt Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is the the fourth film under Walt Disney Pictures to be rated PG-13. The first three are the Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy.

Like no one knows, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is the adaptation of the popular video game of the same name released by Ubisoft Montreal in 2003. However, there are a lot of differences between the movie and game, of which I will expound on later.

Set in medieval Persia, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time follows the story of an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Which is why after the prince was tricked by a dying Vizier to unleash the Sands of Time that turns out to destroy a kingdom and transforms its populace into ferocious demons. In his effort to save his own kingdom and redeem his fatal mistake, it's up to the prince and the princess to return the sands to the hourglass by using the Dagger of Time, which also gives him a limited control over the flow of time.

What's the difference between Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie from the game?

Though primarily based on the video game, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time also shares some elements with the other games in the Prince of Persia series.

Several unnamed characters in the game were given names for the sake of the movie. In the game, the Prince didn't actually have a name. In the film, they called him Dastan, which means "a heroic cultural fairytale" in Persian. And the Princess' was changed from Farah to Tamina.

The main antagonist is not an evil vizier in the film, but rather a villainous nobleman called Nizam.

The film also adds a detailed backstory to the Prince which has never been mentioned in the games. Furthermore, the Jake Gyllenhaal's costume is based on his appearance in Warrior Within instead of The Sands Of Time.

It's amazing how Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie trailer seems to give out a lot about the movie's plot but still enough to make me want to watch it in the theaters.

Most of the scenes in the movie were shot in Morocco, the same country where the girls of Sex and the City 2 spend their escapade.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is directed by Mike Newell and written by Jordan Mechner, Boaz Yakin, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard. Though it has a released date of May 28, 2010 in the US, it was reported that it will be showing in the Philippines on May 27, 2010.
